Need great post graduation place for lunch for 10

My daughter is graduating from NYU and the commencement is at Radio City - need something really nice for ten people in that close proximity - Continental, Sushi, or Japanese would be great in the $30 to $40 per person range - Thanks!!!

That is a really tough area to find good food in at any price range (working a block away, I face this reality pratically every day). I recommend giving Mirage a call. It is very nice food, a bit under the radar, and, IIRC, the lunch is a pretty good deal there.

Make sure you discuss cost when you talk to any restaurant, because some restaurants may charge a group of 10 a special prix fixe that may be more than what you could get a la carte.

The word "Continental" is rather passé because that style of restaurant has pretty much died. If an eclectic menu would work for you, I would suggest Amalia, on 55th St., b/t 7th & B'way. They offer a 3-course lunch prix-fixe for $24 (drinks, tax & tip additional). We haven't been there in a long time, but the food was very good when we had dinner, and the reports I've read since have indicated that the food is still fine. The space has very jazzy decor, there are several different dining areas, and they can easily accommodate a party of 10.

Best wishes to your daughter on her graduation and Bon Appetit!

I have eaten there for dinner, and no, Nobu is VERY upscale (I actually saw Tom Cruise there) and would run $75+/pp, unless everyone has just one appetizer and one drink. $30 won't get you far anywhere for good quality sushi in general, but try Tenzan on 52nd & 2nd (www.tenzanrestaurants.com) Decor is decent, but not super upscale like Nobu. Your best bet would be to go further west - around 8th or 9th ave in the Theatre District or Hell's Kitchen if you want a nicer place for good sushi in that price range. Try Haru on 205 w43rd (www.harusushi.com) for a pretty place with inventive rolls. The bill will probably come out to around $30pp for luch. For reasonably priced Continental that includes sushi in their menu, try Opia on 57th Street between Lexington & Park Aves. (http://www.opiarestaurant.com). They have a $24 prix fixe menu as well. Hope that helps.

I've not been to the 57th st branch but have had dinner downtown. I suggested the location after checking out the website as it seems like they have lunch specials that would be within your budget. Of course I would have to concur that $40 would not be enough if you meant to order nigiri sushi by the piece.
