We're staying in Deerfield tonight on the way to Lake Geneva tomorrow. Any special place to try for breakfast Sunday morning that's not too out of the way?

Yup. Walker Brothers Original Pancake House is THE place to have breakfast in the northern suburbs. The huge, puffy, cinnamony apple pancake is spectacular, and so is the German pancake. The omelets and crepes are excellent too.

There are six Walker Brothers locations in the northern suburbs. The one in Lincolnshire is convenient to your route.

I had one of those pancakes this morning and it almost sent me into a diabetic coma. WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much sugar. I like things sweet but this was ridiculous- when I realized I was chewing on chunks of sugar, I called it quits, and this thing is huge, so I'd only managed to eat maybe 1/3 of it. I did like the popover-style batter used in it, but hoo boy. Sugar central. Did I mention the sugar? :-)

You can get the German pancake that uses the same batter as the rich apple pancake, only it's dusted with powered sugar and you can squeeze lemon juice over it. The rich apple pancake may be best for a dessert to be shared.

BTW, you did notice that this is a thread from last May, right?

Yes, I did see this thread was 4 moths old. I searched for Walker Brothers, as I figured my feedback would be better placed in context with previous reviews, and was curious to see if others thought the pancake was as excessively sweet as I did.

I thought the same thing- this might make an interesting dessert, in smaller portions.
