Looking for a coffee shop or restaurant that would let us hang out and play for a few hours. We would of course order beverages while we played and lunch in between.

Panera is definitely a good place. Lots of good food & drinks, lots of seating, and they are used to having people camp out.

You may also want to try the new Rockville Library. They allow you to bring stuff in there and they also have some non-quiet areas.
