Thank you Manhattan! What a wonderful trip.
Dear Manhattan Board Posters,
I am truly grateful for all your wonderful advice on where to eat in the city. I just recently had the pleasure of spending five days in your culinary theme park. I did a lot of surfing the Manhattan boards before my trip and had a wonderful culinary journey (even on a budget!). Of the reccomendations that I took from the boards, these were my favorites and I would highly recommend to any city visitors:
1) Lunch at Jean George- Can't I eat there every day? The service and food was excellent, from the amuse bouche to the flavored marshmallows at the end. The chocolate gnocchi was to die for.
2) Katz Deli- One word- Pastrami. The deli has great energy and it was delish. What the restaurant lacks in decor, it makes up in character. I could have spent a couple hours noshing on pastrami and people watching.
3) Momofuku Milk- While I wish I could have eaten at all the Momofuku locations, my budget and time only allowed for Milk. I ordered the pork buns and a cereal milk. They were both great and the descriptions from this board were spot on.
In the culinary sense, my best days were days that I took the time to plan ahead. Otherwise it was pretty much hit or miss. However, I did discover Artichoke in the East Village all on my own. I have to say (even though I am a FL gal) it was a pretty great slice of pizza.
Now I know you hounds are going to shoot me, but I just couldn't pass up eating a meal in Little Italy and having dessert at Serendipity. I have to say I really enjoyed both. I don't even know the restaurant we ate at in Little Italy, but I found the experience of eating out on a tiny patio with street peddlers and Italian waiters really charming. Serendipity was a really interesting experience. I wouldn't describe the food or atmosphere as refined or something to write home about, but if you are looking for a sweet treat with huge portions. This is the place.
Again, Manhattan hounds, THANK YOU!
