Oahu Trip-Honeymoon turn into foodie trip
I did my research before going. Searching the internet for anything good. I had a nearly 25 restaurant list and of course it got cut down because we are only there for 6 days. Here s the list of restaurants and my opinion of them:
Ono Hawaiian - very small place but authentic Hawaiian food. I had the Kaulua pig combo which was good with 4 different sides.
Leonards Bakery - The malasadas that they sell was the best ones especially the ones with fillings on it. They have regular custard, pineapple, chocolate and of course I forgot the last one. We got there at eight and it was pack already.
-4 International market at Waikiki had a food court which was pronominal- they had mostly every asian cuisine you can think off....vietnamese thai kabobs korean filipino. The one that we choose was Choi's which was Korean BBQ and Bautista Filipino. Baustita was okay for a fast food filipino place but Choi's was the best out of all the vendors. I had BBQ combo which came with beef pork and chicken. We actually went there twice.
Dole Plantation - It was on the way to North shore we had Pineapple Float which of course has pineapple juice and pineapple ice cream. Need I say more.
Mutsumoto Shave ice - line is throughout the door both times we went. The trick is ordering less flavor because it gets too mix up when you have too many in there.
Giovanni's shrimp truck - I had there garlic flavored one and it was ok fresh but that;s it.
Opal thai truck - We had the shrimp Pad thai which was better than what I expected. fresh ingredients and cook right in front of you.
Macky's Shrimp Truck - I think was the best shrimps ever had. I had the spicy and my wife had the lemon butter flavored one. I'm still thinking about it right now.
Elena's Filipino food - I had adobo omelete which gigantic. it look like two chipotle burrito combined. They have adobo with friend rice wrapped in scrambled egg...wow. I probably recommend going there around 8-2 which when there buffet starts.
-12 Ala Moana Mall - Food court like this doesn't exist in mainland- We had Haniwa Ya Ramen which was really good and spicy and Curry house kalbi beef and fried chicken platter that was ok but once you step in there's no turning back with all the choices you have.
Taiyo Ramen - They had like 20 kind of ramen. My wife had the seafood combo which was good and big. And I had the Tonkatsu Ramen which is just ramen with chicken tonkatsu which perfectly cooked.
Liliha Bakery - We wanted to eat at the diner but it was pack so we just grab some malasadas from ther but was disappointed. Not nearly as good as Leonard's.
Wailana Coffee house - We went here twice because it was recommended by a friend and it was near our hotel. We had the loco moco which was okay for being a beef patty on top of rice and gravy, Eggs benedict was good but too much sauce so if you order it just them to lighten the sauce, pork chop breakfast was okay but it came with a macademian pancakes which great but not as good as there banana pancake. wow
Roy's Restaurant - My sister has been raving about this restaurant for years. Everytime she goes to Hawaii she goes to his restaurant. We had some frying sushi and ahi tuna with tempura sushi which melted like butter. wow. Main course was Seared Ahi tuna which was the freshest fish I've ever had and for dessert we had the Chocolate souffle which was a delight.
Puka dog - I had this on the way to the airport leaving and was kind of disappointed after seeing Anthony Bourdain show about it. I think it's too hype out.
South Shore Grill - I had the Mahi Mahi platter which was fresh but ok and my wife had the fish shrimp tacos which was good because of the aoli sauce they used.
That's the end of my trip which was kind of sad because counting all the times we went out to eat in pretty much 5 whole days because we arrived in the afternoon and left in the afternoon the total count which includes going on some places twice is 21. That's not even including the Luau that we went to. So 21 restaurants, 10 different beaches, half a day luau at Ploynesian cultural center, shopping at Ala moana mall, Waikiki strip, and Aloha Stadium Swap meet in 5 days. Sorry if i don't describe the place or the food more detail but I'm just exhausted but very happy and satisfied with our trip.
