Looking for Fava Beans

I am making a rice salad that includes fresh fava beans and I have no idea where to find them. I am located in Jersey City, but I'm willing to go to any surrounding area for them. Does anyone know where I can buy some?

  1. I would think just about any large food store (A&P,Stop & Shop et al) should have them.
Could be in several places-ask for help.
I see them in regular stores here in NY area. However I can not swear if I have seen them in cans, bags or both.

    1. They should be in season right now. Try independent vegetable stores or farmers markets.

      1. If you can't find them in the fresh food section, you sometimes can find them frozen too. Just to make sure, have you purchased them before? You need to know how to cook them and removed the exterior layer.

        1. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Fairway; there's one in Red Hook and a couple in NYC.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I haven't actually made fresh fava beans before, so I plan on buying a lot just in case.

          2. Trader Joe's has them cooked, sold wrapped in plastic, in the cold section.

            1. Any Portuguese grocery store should have them. Try Elizabeth or Newark.

              1. If you can't find fava's, you can substitute large lima's.

                1. Can you get to Fairway? They had them this weekend.
