RE: Best smoked salmon and bialys?

Legman May 7, 2009 02:54 PM

For mothers day brunch we've decided to treat the mothers in the family to smoked salmon & bialy's here in our apartment instead of going out to eat. Any ideas?

Zabar's, Barney Greengrass, Murray's sturgeon shop all have delicious lox - if you're on the upper west side or willing to trek there!

Russ & Daughters for nova if you are downtown . . .Ess-a-bagel has good nova too. Ask them to slice it fresh for you (sometimes they pre-slice).

Agree the Russ & Daughters has the best smoked salmon. I forget from where R&D brings in their bages/bialies, but they're always fine.

They told me they have the bagels made for them in Brooklyn or Queens, don't remember which. Happened to ask last time I was there.

I believe they get their bialys from Kossars-the best!

yes kossars for bialys-- and pletzel wheels ("onion disks"). so good. be forewarned, they are closed friday afternoon til saturday late. for shabbos.
their lox is nothing special though. i'd pick up lox elsewhere if i was serious about special brunchness. russ & daughters maybe
