Chinatown dimsum

Any suggestions for dimsum in Chinatown besides Empress Pavillion?
I've been to the Empress many times and it's always been good but has never wowed me.
I want to take my Mom to dimsum this Mother's Day and would love to try a different place.

M'Day is going to even more crazy than normal.

I just tried Ocean Seafood today for lunch with a big group. While the food pales in comparison to SGV offerings, it wasn't bad. Just a tad on the oily side. The dining room is fairly large and the service was great. A lot of the dim sum cart ladies were even able to explain certain dishes in English. I'd suggest Ocean or CBS Seafood if you must be in Chinatown. Although I like the food better at CBS, Ocean's interior is much better. In addition, Ocean is rated an A for cleanliness if you're worried about that sort of thing.

If you're willing to head East on the 10, I'd suggest either 888, Ocean Star, or NBC for cart-style. I've only tried Elite for nouveau, menu-ordering dim sum and enjoyed it. You'll most likely wow her there. Only problem I can foresee is that Elite is a small place and will most likely be packed on Mother's Day. It's going to be crazy no matter where you go. Good luck.

I agree with the others, SGV will provide superior dim sum. In Chinatown, however, my go to place is upstairs at Ocean. An 11:00 arrival (son't know about Mother's Day, though) usually has no wait and, best of all, the shrimp & cilantro har gow come out then. Their braised chicken feet are quite good.

Ocean Seafood is much better than Empress.

Don't go downtown. Try Capital Seafood in MP (20% off before 10:30) or King Hua in Alhambra

maybe I'm crazy, or my Chinese palate isn't too advanced, but I'd take Empress over Sea
          Harbor any day.

You're not going to wow her anyplace in Chinatown. CBS Seafood is OK.
