Cheapest Lunch Place

I need a really cheap place to eat for lunch today. Any ideas?

  1. What neighborhood? Cheap lunches uptown include Ted's Frostop (Claiborne at Calhoun), the taco truck at Claiborne & Eagle St by the water treatment facility, and a slice of pepperoni at the Dough Bowl for $2.75 (or cheese, if the extra 25 cents will break you). NY Pizza also sells by the slice, as does Whole Foods (around $2.50, depending on toppings).

What's the prices at Dunbar's running these days? Is it still basically an all you can eat on the beans and chicken, or did she change that?

Yeah, uptown. I wind up always going to China Orchid for their crab rangoons, but I want something different today.

I've spent far too many years of my life eating cheap lunches uptown. Try the crepes place on the corner by the Boot (Broadway & Zimple), or the lunch specials at Jazmine Cafe (a few doors down from Camellia Grill). Panini at Gelato Pazzo run to $9, and the Curry Corner is around $8 or $9, too.

Been to all those places, but I'll revisit Jazmine. I used to go at least 2-3 times a week, but kinda got sick of it. Like always, today I wound up going to China Orchid. Can't beat $5.45 for 6 crab rangoon for me!!!

Just sent by buddy to the taco truck and he confirmed it. Three tacos, 4 bucks and a big smile!

The tortas from that particular truck are pretty good, too.

everyone is talking about the one on claiborne and eagle. what are the hours and on what days are they out?

On weekdays, the little trailer is definitely open at lunchtime. Sorry, I don't pass that way much on the weekends. It is usually parked on the side of Claiborne in front of the small, newish strip mall adjacent to Eagle Street (strip mall has a laundromat, snoball stand, some other businesses).

It's open at lunch on Saturdays. It hasn't been open on Sundays in the past, however, I was by there today and it did happen to be open, so maybe they're going to seven days! I really love that place.
