Saigon R, Englewood for sale??

menton1 May 6, 2009 08:43 PM

Word has it that this terrific little restaurant is up for sale on Craigslist. Aaargh!! This is one of our favorite places, it's small, homey, and has really wonderful Asian/Vietnamese dishes prepared with great care. It's a regular haunt for us, and it would be a great loss to NE Bergen county if it went away. Say it's not true, KT!!

Anyone else a bit perturbed about the possible loss of this wonderful restaurant?

half of the restaurants in north jersey are "for sale." it could mean any of a million things, or nothing.

Yes, perhaps it's just a "feeler". Place is always busy.

I am!! It's a great local place — in addition to the 23 seats, they'll do carry out. It used to be that we'd have to make a reservation fro Thursday thru Saturday, but I've noticed that the last few times the place has been less than full. I assume it's the recession because the food is still good. Love the summer rolls, soups, and any dish with roasted duck.

Not sure what you mean, Jon. I'm not interested in buying it, I'm interested in patronizing the place. It's a wonderful little place. Some folks complain about its "authenticity". Sure, some of the dishes are "adjusted" to an American audience. The preparations still have a unique combination of flavors, not experienced at other Asians. Textures and ingredients are unique, also. And the owner, KT, is as authentic Vietnamese as they come.

I hope the place survives. A good, homey family-run neighborhood place with food prepared with care is not that common in NJ these days.

What I meant to post was have you looked and confirmed that it was truely posted as on sale on Craigslist?

Yes, anyone can. Craiglist is an open website, you can just do a search and see it there yourself.

I believe menton's question was in part rhetorical, and perhaps served as a jumping off point to discuss that this is a good restaurant, and it would be a shame to lose it. At least that was pretty clear to me, though I could be wrong, but I did read past the title of the thread.
