Staying on W 51st - Need a Great Recommendation!

I am hosting a business dinner in NYC and staying at a hotel on W 51st.

Can you recommend an interesting restaurant in the general area? Looking for upscale, decent wine list, fun.

Let me know if anything comes to mind.

  1. West 51st and what cross street? West 51st street is pretty wide!

How expensive? Please include a dollar figure that includes tax, tip, wine/drinks, so we can tailor our recommendations.

kahryn's questions are all important -- and i am sure she will offer awesome suggestions.

my first inclination, hearing locale and 'business' is to suggest insieme on 51st at 7th. they offer a good combination of traditional and modern italian - pastas a specialty - with a very good wine list. vibe is nice and neutral. not romantic, not dull. service is tops.

Hi Kathryn - my location is near the intersection of W 51st St and 7th Ave.

For how many? What cuisines? Price/person? We need much more info.

Hi - ok, it would be for 3 people.

Interested in traditional american faire, Italian or French.

            Per person up to $100-$125

Staying at W 51st St and 7th Ave.

Thanks for any and all help!

              To further clarify:

Is that $100-$125pp budget just for food, or is it the per person out-the-door cost = food, alcoholic beverages, tax (nearly 9%) and tip (20%)? If it is the latter, frankly, it's not going to cover what I would consider upscale restaurants.

      2. I agree with Kathryn that it would be helpful to have more specifics. However, to get you started, I would recommend the formal dining room at The Modern, located in MoMA, on W. 53rd, b/t 5th & 6th Avs. The chef, Gabriel Keuther, just won the James Beard Award for Best Chef-NYC -- richly deserved because his cuisine is sensational! There's an excellent wine list, hospitality and service are impeccable, and the space looks out on the museum's lovely sculpture garden.

There is the 21 Club if you want steak-great wine list too. Upscale Greek, there is ANthos
There is Maloney and Porcelli, also if it is a decent size Red Eye Grill or Trattoria Dell'Arte can be fun.
