We are coming to NYC in a week. Staying at the Excellsior Hotel would like some good recommendations for nearby restaurants. We will be tired from our trip so not to pricy. Thanks

May help if you told us WHERE the Excellsior Hotel was located, what cuisines you'd like, and what you consider "not too pricey." Thanks.

If you are really tired and want to stick close to home there is 81, the restaurant in the Excelsior Hotel (45 W. 81st), next to Natural History, that was opened last year by Ed Brown. I had brunch there last weekend and thought it was good, with excellent service and soothing surroundings. It's not inexpensive but they have a $30.81 prix fixe for 2 courses that sounds like a good deal. By the way, you realize you will be on the upper west not upper east side.

And around the corner, from 81, there is Dovetail, and in between them on Columbus, Gari sushi with a pretty good omakase. None of those are at the "top" of NY restaus, but they're all in game of being pretty good.

Yes, you should definitely race to check out Shake Shack where you try the 30th best burger in NY, according to NYC's Burger of the Month Club (BOTM) see story at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/06/dining/06burg.html

With number 30 at that quality, can you imagine how good NY's next 29 are?!!! My favorite burger will require a small bit of travel for you, but it's worth it to get up in the top 10 burgers. Burger Joint, fairly convenient from where you are staying, just take the B or C subway from 81st down to 59th and it's a short walk. Worth it, as you can imagine, to jump up over 20 places in quality! heheh. I'm loving this.
