Mother Day/Birthday (SD)
Looking for a little inspiration. How do you CHs usually celebrate Mother's Day in San Diego? I typically think of it as a brunch holiday. Does anyone go the dinner route at restaurants? My birthday falls on MD this year and want to dine out without running into MD mania crowds. Not really thinking of "special occasion" restaurants, just a less manic, charming spot with wine and solid food cred. at decent prices for dinner. Where would you go?
Happy Birthday foodiechick!
I would do a couple of different things..
I would stay the night at Borrego Ranch Resort or formely known as Casa del Zorro in Borrego Springs..swim and have dinner and drinks.. brunch with a fab bottle of bubbly..checkout late and drive up through Julian/Wynola and finish it off with a late lunch at Jeremy's on the Hill and make sure you stop at Dudley's for bakery goodies..
Second, I would do either a corner table on the back patio of La V and bring some good champagne and watch the sunset, eating oysters, shrimp cocktails and enjoying your day..
Third, I would go to Bajamar resort for the weekend..dinner at Laja on Saturday and lobsters at Puerto Nuevo for your birthday..
Fourth, Laguna Beach at my favorite Surf and Sand Resort..stay the weekend..eating and drinking!
My mummy lives in AZ, so a day with her is out. If I had my druthers, I'd take her to Avenue 5 in Banker's Hill. I wouldn't expect a long wait there, although you never know. And in a perfect world, we'd go to Cafe Chloe, but I'm sure it will be pretty busy on MD.
I just had dinner at Avenue 5 for the first time last week and really enjoyed it. One appetizer of ravioli, mustrooms, corn and grapes really stood out. The service was perhaps a little too attentive, but good compared to usual San Diego "distant" service. I found the prices to be in the high range. For two with one appetizer, two entrees, one dessert and couple of bottle of wines totaled over $100. I'd wholeheatedly agree with Cafe Chloe and would add Farmhouse, but I wonder what the crowds would be like on MD. Happy Birthday foodiechick!
