I have family in St Louis and have been visiting the city once or twice a year my whole life. I always try to make it in to Amighetties once on every trip for there "Taste of Italy" sandwich. This could be the most sinfully delicious sandwich I have ever encountered. They take a fresh Italian roll, and I mean right out of the oven fresh as the place is a bakery/deli, split it, slather it with garlic butter, toast the halves, then layer Italian cold cuts, American and Provel (a St Louis specialty cheese that is a blend of provolone, mozzarella and white American cheeses). Then they zap it for a few seconds to melt the cheese. My, what a delicious sandwich. Order a salad, too, if you go.

Amighetti's is still one of our favorite places in St. Louis. We get there twice a year. ALWAYS get the Amighetti's Special sandwich. There's nothing like it.
Salads, pastas and desserts (gelato or cannoli? Such decisions!) are all very good, too. If the weather is nice, sit in the courtyard. If you're lucky, their house jazz band will be playing.
We'll be heading there (AGAIN!) in just a couple of weeks. I can't wait!
