We loved Dakos when we were there in December. Cretan food and a very nice Swedish? sommelier / waiter.

This is a late reply to this thread, but the breakfast at the St. George Lycabettus Hotel is unbelievably delicious. Cheeses from all parts of Greece, top notch pastries, fresh fruits and vegetables, cured meats, as well as cereal, eggs and toast to keep the North Americans happy.Fresh squeezed OJ.
You won't need to eat lunch if you have breakfast there;) It cost around 28 E per person the last time I was there, but I thought we got our money's worth, considering the high quality.
Beautiful view of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill from the top of the boutique hotel, located in the upscale/artsy Kolonaki neighbourhood.

We stayed there last trip and concur heartily. Breakfast was included in room rate which was around EU 140.00. Very nice hotel, breakfast was a highlight (so nice to have peeled and sectioned mandarins to eat with the wonderful Greek yogurt).

Is the breakfast at the Lycabettus Hotel served on the roof? It's not clear from phoenikia's comments whether the view is great from breakfast on the roof or just from the roof in general.
Thanks!

It's the top floor and there are tables outside (we were there in a cold December so the terrace wasn't available or appealing).

That was an incredibly fast response for a question asked about a year old post. Many thanks!

It was a great exerience being there. And my name is buttertart and I'm a Chowhound addict.

The view is good from the breakfast room, from the terrace, and from the rooftop ;-) The actual roof has a pool, so the breakfast room/terrace is on the floor one level below the rooftop ;-)
Buttertart, you got an amazing rate. When I tried to book a room in Sept 2009, it was closer to 220 EU/night plus 26 Eu for breakfast (per person).
I ended up staying at the Electra Palace hotel in Plaka for less, which had a good buffet breakfast included in the rate (although not quite as luxurious as the breakfast at the St. George Lycabettus), including unlimited fresh squeezed OJ (some Greek hotel restos charge extra for the fresh-squeezed or limit the glasses). The Electra Palace breakfast room was on the mainfloor, so the only view was a view of the hotel's courtyard.

We had a view of the Acropolis from our hotel room. Doesn't get much better than that (except a harborview room in HK). It was between Christmas and New Year's and my husband was there for an academic conference - the conference organizers must have arranged a low rate for group booking. Rooms are a nice size, nicely decorated. It's one of the more memorable (good) hotel experiences of my life.

I appreciate your input. I'm going to make a point of having breakfast at the Lycabettus Hotel when I'm in Athens in a few weeks.

Oh Fellow Chowhounds, You have transported me back to Athens and I long to return. I usually stay at the Divani Palace Hotel at the base of the Acropolis and visit Lycabettos daily! Next summer I will try the Lycabettos Hotel...cannot wait! Thank you.

Hope you like the neighbourhood of Kolonaki where St.G L is located- some nice coffee shops, galleries, artsier/upscale vibe that I prefer to the area where the Divani Palace is located ;-) There's also a nice taverna (can't remember the name offhand) just a short walk down the hill from the St. George Lycabettus hotel.

Thank you phoenikia! I will begin to make plans for next May soon...any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also go to London each year and I think that perhaps you are British? I usually stay at 10 Manchester Street. Any new suggestions for me if you are familiar with London? By the way, I will be making some phoenikia next week my Churche's festival! Be well my new friend.

I'm actually a Canadian chowhound ;-)
Nice to meet a new chowfriend who also likes to make phoenikia ;-)
I haven't visited London for almost 2 years, so I'm not up to date on the current restaurant scene. I've found some great suggestions for London in the past on the UK board: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/42?t...
If you're looking for a nice place to have breakfast in London, I like having at least one breakfast at the Wolseley on Picadilly when I visit London ;-)

Hello Phoenikia! I drive to Montreal at least once a year! Bon Nuit mon ami! My Greek is better than my French. I am so happy to meet you. I live slightly north of Boston and I love to travel as often as I can! Thank you for your link. I am new to Chowhound.
