Anyone tried Uncle Ronnies Red Tavern
Has anyone been to Uncle Ronnies in Nasonville (Victory Hwy)? We'vemade a reservation there for Sunday and I hope we haven't chosen a turkey. I look at the menu and see things like "Brushette" and "Seafood Fra D'Ablo" and begin to wonder.
Poor spelling doesn't mean bad food, but it's sort of like the package in the store that says "Italian Style".

We went once last year. The food was ok, not memorable, fairly priced for what you get. It is not a place to go for decor/special occasion/skilled service. If you do not have to travel far to get there, it's fine. My wife had swordfish: it was fresh, cooked past her ordered preference but not dry. I had the fried seafood platter; normal quality, breading a bit heavy. They tout a salad bar, which has no harm in it but is small (4'? 6'?) and against a wall with, I think, enclosed ends, so it can be cramped. If you want fancier in that area, try Bella on Rt. 102. Good luck!

I went for the first time a few weeks ago. The food was good enough, service was OK too. I thought the prices were a little high for the atmosphere. The bar area is modern and nice. I don't see myself going back except to maybe try the Polish dinner I saw advertised.
The salad bar is comically small, but everything on it was fresh.
Their website lists special dinners etc. http://www.uncleronniesredtavern.com-

I love Uncle Ronnie's. My wife is allergic to seafood and I hate seafood, so maybe that's the difference. We generally get beef or pasta dishes at restaurants like this. Uncle Ronnies does a great job on beef, and their potatoes are HUGE and perfectly prepared. I had manicotti or ravioli there once and I think I was unimpressed. The salad bar is indeed somewhat lame. Their steak fries are awesome. The portions on meat-and-potatoes meals are great; we always leave stuffed, with the next day's lunch, having not spent much money. Their appetizers are good too - try the potato skins. Their burgers are hand-made, juicy, and thick.
I like the atmosphere. It's less noisy and stressful than many other restaurants, and the staff are very nice. I think for people wanting prime rib, steak, or a burger it's a great place to go.
Edit: I forgot to mention the sizzling fajita platter...it's great.

I've found the Prime Rib to be a little lacking. The first time it was all right, cooked well, pretty tasty; good, but not great. The quantity seemed to be more the focus than the quality. The second time, the cut of meat was horrible, gristly and overcooked. There are far better places to go for a prime rib.
However, the other meals I've had there have been good. The fisherman's platter (fried seafood) is gargantuan and quite good. The stuffed sole I tried was good as well. And the baked/sweet potatoes are both excellent, either plain or loaded. I realize a baked potato shouldn't be all that difficult, but I've had plenty that were overcooked.
