the search for the great bran muffin

Thank god the search is over. I have been obsessed by this fact. Where have all the great bran muffins gone? i mean not super sweet, not heavy like hockey pucks, not chewy taffy, not blandola, not airborne with too much baking powder.. I mean I am talking this: light, nutty, grainy, easy to break off but not crumbly, beautiful golden brown, good heighth. So what was the trick?
I posted The best bran muffin recipe onGoogle and after many tries from All Cooks and epicurious, and all recipes and so on and so forth I spotted many conversation with the name La Brea Bran Muffins from Nancy Silverton. I tried them and now I am done. What a brilliant idea that she makes a raisin puree to add to the buttermilk and bran mixture.. It gives texture and juist the right added sweetness. How did she ever think of that?

I am going on a trip next week to New York and theses are so good that I am taking them with me.. No more muffin envy for me NO SIRREE!! Yippee. If anyone wants to know more about these. I will share..

If you get lazy, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf has a DELICIOUS honey raisin bran muffin. Very candied on the top, light and buttery throughout. The only problem is, they are sold out by mid morning. And I'm not sure the chain is everywhere in the US. I'm in LA, and they're everywhere here.

My favorite grocery store bran muffins (before they switched to gourmet ones) contained prune butter. My replacement is a pumpkin bread with a generous use of bran and grains.

I'm not a huge bran muffin fan myself but sure, I think we could all benefit from a recipe.
