Family here from the U.K.

ORyan May 5, 2009 08:08 AM

I have family here from the U.K. and they are staying in the city. What are some of the best eating spots i can take them to for lunch and dinner or inbtween meals.

I'm not looking for upscale.

Cheaper end is better. Street food. quick food.no waiter service. However i am open to some restauarants

So far i was thinking, shake shack, grimaldi's, maybe some hole in the wall chinese food. Some FroYo if its nice out, etc....

Where are you going to be between meals? A neighborhood or two would help us tailor suggestions.

I'd suggest you do RGR's Gustatory Tour: Katz's Deli, Russ & Daughters, Yonah Schimmel's, Ray's, Kossar's, The Donut Plant, Gus' Pickles, Il Laboratorio de Gelato, and Economy Candy.

In addition to the threads kathryn links above, you'll probably want to read up on Chinatown. Here's a great place to start:

In addition to the recommendations above, you might want to focus on options that are harder to find in the UK:

Mexican: Tulcingo del Valle, Tehuitzingo, Taqueria y la Fonda Mexicana, La Esquina (upstairs), Taco El Angelo
Chinese: Grand Sichuan - 7th Avenue, Red Egg, Mei Li Wah, Wah Fung (char siu on rice), Prosperity Dumplings
Banh Mi: Banh Mi Saigon, Baoguette
Hot Dogs: Shake Shack, Crif Dogs
        Korean: Woorijip, Seoul Station, E-Mo
