I just made a reservation at "The Mooring" for this Friday evening. Definitely mixed reviews. Would anyone recommend another restaurant that is within walking distance from the Marriott hotel that is reasonably priced with excellent food? Also we are looking for a place to hear music after dinner. Thanks so much.

Thank you all so much, I think we will stick with the Mooring, go for drinks at the Newport blues and Sat. night go to the Rhumbline -

I'm actually a big fan of The Mooring. 3 years ago i would not have been saying that, but they have completely changed the menu from fried everything to fresh seafood. They actually have my favorite salad in all of Newport (chopped salad). I would highly recommend it if you are looking for waterfront and seafood. From the Marriott another of my faves is Rhumbline. I love the setting in the Point neighborhood and the food is always good. Much more of a cozy atmosphere than the Mooring which is huge.

The Barking Crab is right there too. Traditional seafood shack, I like the bar areas, there's one outside too, and the food is good this year, but certainly not fine dining.

First off...everything in New Port is within walking distance of the Marriott. Try Scales and Shells...better food and better prices than the Moorings...however not as nice ambiance. I like the Moorings and have never had a bad meal there...I just have never had one that I raved about for 3 days after either.

I think the Cooke House is better than the Moorings.
