Wilmington DE Good Italian Recs

My husband will be running the marathon on May 17, and we would like to go out for a good Italian meal the night before. We are staying at the Sheraton, but are willing to drive. Bonus points for good chocolate chip cookies (a pre-race tradition).

  1. I'm sure a lot of people will recommend Toscana. It used to be very good but our last visit there was very disappointing. (A tiny duck breast on whipped up cauliflower?) And they don't serve cookies.

If you're willing to drive to Kennett Square, you will be rewarded with a very good meal at Sovana Bistro. Granted they don't have chocolate chip cookies either but you will have a great meal. http://www.sovanabistro.com/

Sweet Somethings Bakery in Wilmington has very good chocolate chip cookies but they don't usually carry them, so you may have to order them ahead of time. http://www.sweetsomethingsdesserts.com/

    1. We love Attilio's on 4th St for red gravy Italian - it's not too far from your hotel, but definitely drive (not a safe walk). I'm not sure if they take credit cards, so bring cash. Walking distance from your hotel is Mezzanote in the Brandywine Building on 12th St. - but it is more high-end Italian and can be hit-or-miss depending on your choice. For the chocolate chip cookies, try Presto on Washington St, just a block or two from your hotel.

A second vote for Attilio's...definately my favorite Italian in Wilmington.

      2. Thank you for the recs. We went to Attilio's. It was great, exactly what we were looking for. The food, was good, service was fast and friendly. Afterwards we stopped by Presto for cookies. Wow! I had Heath Bar and my huband has chocolate chip, best pre-race cookies we have ever had.

Thank you for the recs. My husband enjoyed the race and had a personal record. Who knws we maybe back for another next year.
