I'm a fan of Melanie's Bistro. Food is good (and wine by the glass is reasonably priced) and the people who run the place are nice. It's become a real neighbourhood spot, they also get involved and support community events.

It really depends what type of place you're looking for.

Small World Café has excellent coffee and treats by Dufflet, but keep in mind it is very geared to mothers/fathers and kids, and sometimes there are half a dozen strollers lined up and bunches of kids running around. It also closes early, at 6 p.m., I think, most days. It's a great place if you have a child... or after about 3:00 p.m., when the moms and tots seem to clear out.

For food, I recommend Djerba La Douce, Melanie's Bistro, Quattro Raggazze. Even Ten Feet Tall has some good food and a fun vibe... It's more casual and funky than the others, a great place for a group of people.

Djerba La Douce is a family run restaurant that could use a makeover, but the food is very tasty. Melanie's is a friendly place with quite good food-- mostly pastas, plus a couple of chicken and beef dishes, more upmarket than any of the others... Quattro Ragazze, another family-run place, is popular for the very large veal sandwiches, and pastas and pizzas have been good to excellent for me.
