Quick dinner en route to Boston

We will be traveling from Bridgeport to Boston leaving at aroung 5:00 PM and would like to stop for dinner on the way. We are interested in dining along or near I-84 - not at a fast food place but don't have time for a lengthy and lesiurely meal either. Suggestions in the Manchester or Wallingford area perhaps?

Here are some places on the road we like:

    Pepe's Pizza
221 Buckland Hills Drive, Manchester, CT
    860-644-7333

A branch of the original in New Haven. I think it's just as good. Close to 84.

I love the white clam pie. It's cooked to order, so it might be too slow unless you can call ahead and have your pie waiting for you.

    Cromwell Diner- off Rt 91
    135 Berlin Rd, Cromwell, CT
Large menu, fast service, good diner food

    Shady Glen
840 Middle Tpk E, Manchester, CT
    an old fashioned dairy bar
    get the usual cheeseburger
It's a little hard to find-make sure you have good directions

    Glenwood Drive In
    2538 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT
    off the Wilbur Cross Parkway
hotdogs, burgers, lobster rolls and fried clams and ice cream

    Ted's
    1046 Broad St., Meriden, CT
steamed cheeseburgers in an odd little setting

    some people like:
    Rein's New York Style Deli
    435 Hartford Tpke # A, Vernon
but there can be a long wait for a table

thanks for the many suggestions. I know they will be helpful. I was beginning to think there was no one out there who could offer any help!

        sure.

For Shady Glen- I meant to say, get the UNusual cheeseburger. They arrange four slices of cheese over the burger so most gets melty on the griddle. Roadfood.com has listings (and photos) for many of the places I mentioned, as well as many others for CT.

Y'know that Cromwell Diner is a good choice that I forget about. I agree about the very fast service and good diner food. I usually end up there for breakfast and get the eggs and hash. Compare that to an overrated place like Cosmic Omlet where the service can be measured with an hourglass.
