Restaurant in Philadelphia for Mother's Day

I am looking for a nice, upscale restaurant to take my mother for mother's day. Anywhere in the vicinity of center city would be ideal. My parents eat a lot of Italian, at my father's behest, so I'd like suggestions on places that serve cuisine other than Italian. Also, my mother is not particularly adventursome, so no ethic (i.e., Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese) cuisine. I was considering Estia, but wanted to see if this was a good option or if hounds had other thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Fork earned an "Excellent" review from LaBan in today's Inquirer.

true. but as laban himself would tell you, stay away for a couple of weeks after his reviews. it'll get very crowded.

    2. Le Bec Fin is offering a special Mother's Day brunch for $50 -- we went last year and it was wonderful.

Thanks. Sounds like a very good option; however, we're tied up for brunch on Mother's day so I'd like recommendations for dinner.

I got an email today that Table 31 will be open Sunday night for Mother's Day and will be serving their revamped menu. Still plenty of steak and seafood, but also fresh pastas and italian sides, so that may make your Dad happy! However I have never had a bad meal at Estia, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Have a great time!

      2. Matyson. No questions asked. The food is fantastic and the place is 100% classy. You can even save a little on the bill because it is a byob (although it is by no means cheap).

I second Matyson... would be a good place for Mother's Day. Also a fan of Valanni, L'Angolo, and Marigold Kitchen.

Also, haven't heard much on here lately about it, but I know people who LOVE Dmitri's if seafood is your thing. I've never been, but walked by and it smells delish

        2. Estia would be a great choice, especially if they like seafood. If you go, be sure to ask for a booth. The food is top notch (albeit a little pricey at dinner) but you will have a good time.

I like Marigold Kitchen is West Philly. They have a great prix meal deal on Sundays. i had brought my mom and grandmother there a couple of weeks ago on Sunday and we had a great time. I recommend making reservations.
They were impressed with the chi-chi American/southern food. The grits are amazing!
