New empanada spot in Jersey City

Just stopped by a new place on Newark Ave, in the spot that Oasis used to have (so I guess it is 200 Newark Ave): tiny place, takeout only (the have 2 bar stools), very sweet couple selling empanadas, cheese bread, roasted plantains, and some others snacky-bready things I didn't catch the name of. They just opened yesterday so they don't have a menu yet, but the roasted whole plaintain was delicious (I haven't seen this elsewhere, most places only have the fried ones), as was the meat empanada, which is columbian style, cornmeal crust. Served with a homemade green sauce. I'll definitely be back, and hopefully they'll upgrade their coffee from maxwell house.

  1. Good to know! Did this place have a name or is it still just a small mom-and-pop? My parents lived in Central America for a bit & my mom makes roasted plaintains. I'm curious as to the seasonings of these?
