AVOCE - a disappointment
We went to avoce recently for our wedding anniversary celebration. We were really looking forward to it because we had not been out to dinner for a long time ever since we had a baby girl. We were at Avoce a few years ago and enjoyed our experience and always wanted to go back. Sadly, we made the wrong choice in going back.
We made a reservation for 6:45pm initially but had to change it later. They gave us all sorts of grief before finally caving in after we literally had to beg them and after several calls. Later, at dinner, we could not help but notice that there were 3-4 two-person tables that were vacant all through the time we were there. WHAT THE F*CK is that!? In this time when we are seeing restaurants close down all around us because of the bad state of the economy, there is no place for the kind of pretensions they are trying to project. WAKE UP! We are not in 2007!
We ordered sardines and fried dough filled with cheese for appetizers and they were good. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar/majoram that came with the bread was surprisingly good as well. The pasta that we ordered was the low light of the evening. We ordered cheese and prosciutto filled pocket pasta and pasta with rabbit. they were both so salty that they were almost inedible.
we had our concerns when we heard that their chef left a little while ago, but were re-assured by some of the reviews that came out since then. e.g. bruni, etc. Maybe they had an off night, but I dont plan to go back any time soon.
