Looking for the best pubs

I am visiting NY this month and am a big fan of British and Irish pubs. Does anybody have any suggestions? We really do not have a neighborhood choice.

The quintessential Irish pub for me used to be Paddy Reilly's especially for seisiun. Unfortunately half the city agreed with me and now the place is a mob scene. You might check out the places on the upper stretch of 3rd Avenue in the 40s, there are few Irish options from which you can choose.
