Bay Area Wine Bargains [split from Kermit Lynch bargain bin thread]

Maybe this topic should be expanded to include other Bay Area wine bargains. K&L is having a big clearance sale, 500+ wines listed here:

  1. Thanks for the tip, I just snagged another case of 2005 Grange Tiphaine Touraine Becarre. That's a great value at $10.

Hey, they've got the 1964 Bowmore Black marked down from $4899.99 to $3565.99! What a steal!

It seems from this tasting note it's worth every penny.

...What I think impresses me most is how the whisky evolves. On the nose and palate, this is a thick, viscous, whisky, with notes of sticky toffee, earthy oak, fig cake, roasted nuts, fallen fruit, pancake batter, black cherry, ripe peach, dark chocolate covered espresso bean, polished leather, tobacco, a hint of wild game and lingering, leafy damp kiln smoke. Flavors continue on the palate long after swallowing. This is what we all hope for (and dream of) in an older whisky!
The pancake batter and leafy damp kiln smoke did it for me.

    2. Another Kermit Lynch deal is going on now: 2006 white Burgundies are discounted at 20%/bottle, 25%/case. And there's still plenty of the 2003 Charbonnieres Chateauneuf du Pape at $22 in the bargain section.

      1. Recently appearing at Trader Joe's is a very nice AOC Alsace blend, "Now & Zen" 2007. Clearly a special bottling of bulk Alsace varietals, it's crisp and dry with varietally-typical aromatics that are uncommonly pronounced for this price point. Five dollars in the French wines section.

        1. Some excellent deals in Kermit Lynch's bargain bin this week. Prices, as I remember them, are the discounted prices.

2007 Gros Nore Bandol Rose, $15
          2006 Clos Magdaleine Cassis Blanc
2007 Regis Bouvier Marsannay Rose, $11.50
2007 Trinquevedel Tavel, an amazing $9.00

And plenty of bottles of the previously mentioned 2003 Charbonnieres Chateauneuf du Pape at $22.

Meanwhile over at TJ's, Howell Mountain zinfandel (Beatty Ranch Vineyard, I think), $11.

          1. Reviving this topic with a reprise of the original post: K&L is having another big clearance sale, over 600 wines listed:

That was fun to browse through, thanks.

Also wanted to mention that this is the time of year to pick up bargains in Champagne and other sparkling wines, post-Valentine's Day. One friend mentioned that she scored several Champagnes at her neighborhood Safeway discounted to less than $35 each.

              1. re: Melanie Wong

In the past couple of months, there have been two Premier Cru emails where they've been selling grower Champagnes (Agrapart, Hebrart, Gaston Chiquet, Vilmart) from $24-29. I didn't even know Vilmart had a wine at that price point.

Whoa. I attended the Theise champagne tasting in November and was dismayed to see that many of my favorites would be over $45 retail at standard mark-ups bumping up about 15% over what I was used to seeing. Guess that didn't fly.

            2. Time for another KL Wines inventory clearance:

              1. re: ernie in berkeley

For single-malt drinkers, K&L is selling a 17 year-old Glengoyne single-malt for around $50 that usually sells for close to $80.

Thanks for the tip. My cellar really needed replenishing.

                2. And BevMo is doing their 5-cent sale, in effect another inventory clearance. Five cents for the second bottle on selected wines. Some winos scorn the choices, but I've found some nice ones amid the dross. They do this a few times a year.
