Is Patina worth it?

donkeykong718 Apr 30, 2009 02:25 PM

I'm going to a concert at Walt Disney Hall on Friday night and made a reservation at Patina based on its proximity and also what the name used to mean. I've never been but have read several mixed reviews recently and since there seem to be a plethora of good new restaurants downtown (Drago Centro, Bottega Louis, etc.) am I wasting a trip downtown by going to Patina?

Patina is not great but it's okay. Bottega Louis is gorgeous but it is not the level of high end dining that Patina aspires to. Don't forget the always wonderful Water Grill.

The food is good, but not what it used to be. I would explore the others, there are so many excellent new restaurants that have popped up.

I'd skip Patina (overrated) in favour of Water Grill (solid seafood). However, our next trip to the WDCH will take us to Church & State (French).

I like Patina alot, but if the choice now were between Drago Centro and Patina, I would choose the former.

Drago Centro, Watergrill, Church & State or Rivera. You cannot go wrong with any of these restaurants. I think Patina has seen better days.

agree PATINA has seen better days, but you can definitely go wrong at RIVERA.

In a word, no. The food is good, not great, and nothing about the restaurant, excepting perhaps the decor, lives up to the hype. I have eaten there several times, and have been consitently underwhelmed by the food and service.

Yeah, Patina is not great (though I have had 1 great meal there with 4 ok ones). Basically I go there because it's convenient if I have a concert. I'm already parked there, no shuttle hassle, take my time to eat, etc.

However, I have not been there since Theo Schoenegger left so I have no idea what the quality of the food is like. But, whatever you do don't go to Kendell's Brasserie.....expensive and mediocre.

No, Patina is a great place. Bottega Louis is so loud you can't even talk. And the room is so big it's like being in a college dorm lunch room - cold and too many people working there and nothing gets done. Water Grill is by far the best of the bunch. Sit at the bar and have drinks and order the moster shrimp................
