Lunch in Central Square

anais_in_waiting Apr 30, 2009 06:38 AM

Where should I have lunch in Central Square on Saturday? A friend and I are going to meet up for a 'catch-up' session. We often go to Tavern on the Square, but i'm getting a little tired of it.

How about the Plough? Their lunches are really good, and you can sit as long as you want.

On weekends the Plough has Brunch and often a loud band playing during it. If you are trying to catch up it might be hard to hear over the music.

The MOS has great veggie burgers.

A few things I like on a Saturday:

Dim sum at Mary Chung ("mini pork steamer buns" are actually soup dumplings)
      Algerian/Tunisian food at Baraka Cafe
      Bengali at Royal Bengal
Casual American (including breakfast/brunch stuff) at Miracle of Science (basically a bar with really good food)
      Korean grill-table BBQ at Koreana
Quality fast-food burgers (including non-beef options) at Four Burgers
      Tibetan at Rangzen

I was thinking the same- but they don't do lunch on Saturdays. :(

We are Plough regulars so I am going to heartily support that choice. Agree the food is cheap and very good, Jennifer and Brendan the consummate hosts. Sit in the back snug next to the street-side window - you will be somewhat sheltered from the volume and in the best seat in the house. But another (less boisterous) option is Garden at the Cellar - fab food, subdued (if not soporific) atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Agree with most of Slim's recs - however, have been burned by service tooooo many times at Koreana to be able to go back again, and bar service is simply non-existent (if you want a drink with lunch.)

The vegetarian plate at Moody Falafel Palace is very nice.

It seems like every time there's a Kendall/ Central question, I schill for Miracle of Science.
You'd think I'd shut up seeing as one of the great things about it, is that it never seems too crowded to sit and read the paper on a weekend morning. If everybody else realizes how great it is, I'm going to have a lot more company....
