Knead and Feed on Whidbey
Just went to the Knead and Feed on Whidbey. WOW! What a great day trip from Seattle, did the round trip taking the ferry up and drove through the skagit flats on my way back. Great lunch, moderatly priced. I had the lentil soup and a corned beef on a very dark rye. Will be going back for sure. Anyone else eat there? I hear their pies are to die for, but I didn't have room. My friends split a tuna salad that was huge. Nice of them to split it without charging. Also heard they are expanding upstairs with a full scale bakery. That shop is closed right now (April 2009) but they said they hope to have it open by summer.

That's the lower level place over looking Penn cove in Coupeville, right? We've stopped by there several times when making the loop around Whidbey. A couple of times we hit it during the sail boat races in Cove.
For a full day trip, a stop in Coupeville for lunch, and a second stop for dinner in LaConner works well, with a visit to Deception Pass in between. There's also some good walks close to Coupeville, such as in town (and out to the end of the dock), Fort Ebey, Ebey's Landing, and Fort Casey.

Yes, it's on the lower level, very hiden. But like I said above they are expanding up to the street level with a whole bakery area. I've heard about their sweet rolls, but didn't get there early enough to have any. They only make so many a day and sell out pretty quick. Now I am hungrey and want to go back!!

Can't wait to get back to Coupeville and eat at the Knead and Feed again. The shrimp bisque on weekends? Don't try it unless you want to become adicted! By the way, the pie is some of the best I've ever had.

Are the tulips blooming in the Skagit Valley?

Yes. A web search on something like 'skagit tulips' should give you a website devoted to festival.

The tulips are blooming. A perfect round trip is to take the Mukilteo ferry to Whidbey, drive up the island, have lunch in Coupeville at the Knead and Feed, or stop by Toby's for some killer mussles (no kids allowed), then continue north across deception pass bridge and through the tulip fields, take the Best Road cut-off from Highway 20 to see the fields. Be sure to stop at the Snow Goose Market for fresh produce, great flowers and an Icre Cream Cone that will knock your socks off. One hour later you are back in Seattle. Great day trip!

I was just there this weekend! The tuna sandwich was amazing and the view is unbeatable. If you have kids it's the perfect spot to take them in Coupeville. They'll lose their mind for the fabulous cinnamon rolls.

Just checked out the place this past weekend with the family and friends and all were disappointed. Ordered a bowl of soup and what came was a small cup with about 6 spoonfuls accompanied by two enormous (and tasty) slices of bread and a gob of butter for about $9. Hubby had a salad, which was ok. Definitely overpriced in my opinion. Did try the cinnamon and orange rolls, which were good.
