red onion sauce for hot dogs
I was in New York tried a dog with this red onion sauce I loved it it was good! I was in a hurry of course... whats in that I would like to try and make that

I make it all the time, so much better than the canned Sabrett, but based on it.
5 thin sliced onions
Saute in equal amounts of butter and oil for 10 minutes.
Add Heinz ketchup and black pepper to taste, cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
I feel like there's something else, so I'll get back to you....No I'm pretty sure that's it, enjoy! -

re: banjolinana
I grew up on Sabrett's dirty water dogs from Rooney's cart in Sea Bright, NJ. Yum!
I remember, this is going way back, being able to get two dogs and a can of ice cold, generic Foodtown(the supermarket next to the cart where the Rooney's got their sodas from)soda for around a buck.
Great people, the Rooneys. The dad, the mom and then the son all worked the cart.
Is the Rooney's cart still there in Sea Bright? Maybe a grandchild running it now? I moved out of Jersey 20 years ago.
Here's a recipe for the spicy red onion sauce
