Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the Tristate Area

Meigas in Norwalk

Has anyone tried this tapas place. I saw it across the street from Fat Cat. It looks nice enough, but the menu is a little pricey if the food is not up to snuff

    1. Meigas on Hudson street in NYC was one of my favorite restaurants ever. Used to drive in from Pa to go there. After 9/11 no business and it closed. Owner now has two restaurants in Connecticut, think they were there before NYC branch. Finally went about a year ago and drove up from NYC. Reason l loved the NYC one was they were very cutting edge, not really molecular, but wild like squid in squid ink , the had the ink almost like a mousse. It was wonderful, then had Torta del Caser, a strange Extremeduran raw sheep's milk cheese, made into ice cream with fresh churros that may have been the best dessert ever had. Now to the Connecticut one, service was excellent, wine list was very good, but now as in smaller community, 75% of food menu was very normal things, way too normal, thus nice Spanish restaurant, but not the destination the NYC branch was for me

        1. It's definitely more upscale than a "tapas place". It has gone through some incarnations, they actually recently added the tapas to the dinner menu. They were related to Ibiza in New Haven which is excellent.
Here's a link to a recent article explaining the new ownership

We have not been since they changed, but have eaten there in the past and the food is very good. My father went for lunch a few weeks ago and said everything was incredible. The best news is that the original chef is back, he's also the one who trained the chefs at Ibiza from what I understand.
They have a lunch special which seems very well priced. If you go, let us know what you think!

I love the look of this place...and have been craving paella. Has anyone tried their paella menu?

                1. re: Scotty100

I haven't tried the paella recently. I was just looking at their website and they have a tapas tasting menu, $65 for two, I think I'll try that first! Some of the items sound really interesting, such as marinated tuna with olive oil ice cream, crabmeat, tomatoes and olives. Not your average tapas!

If you are referring to Luis Bollo, the original chef at Meigas and Ibiza, I believe you are mistaken; he's not back in the kitchen at Meigas in Norwalk whatsoever.

You are correct, i read the article more carefully and realized he was there in a consulting capacity. I think I missed a sentence when I was reading it!

"Luis Bollo of Spain, the restaurant’s original executive chef, is menu consultant and Miguel Docampo from Spain is now executive chef, assisted by Joan Josep Tuduri as sous chef. Manager and soon-to-be partner is Mario Aguilar."

Sorry for any confusion, Have you eaten there recently?

Yeah, I would be interested in trying their 3-course prix fixe menu, but seems to have mixed reviews around here.

Well I just read on a different thread that the chef "keeled over", but didn't get any more info than that, so I don't know what the story is!

No indication of anything like that on the web.

No news, nothing on the site indicating anything other than Luis Bollo and Ignacio Blanco continue to run the show.
