Looking for Fresh Prickly Pears

I am from Southern Maryland and I wanted fresh prickly pears (fruit that grows on cactus) to make sorbet and jam out of.I travel to DC often so I was wondering if any of the farmer's markets, or specialty food stores in the area carry them? I know they are not native to this climate, so any info would be helpful, thanks!

  1. I've seen them in two places in Montgomery County, but not consistently. Shoppers Food Warehouse and Korean Korner.

    1. Whole foods usually carries these and Shoppers as indicated. My mom is Sicilian and these were popular in my house when I was growing up. Enjoy!

      1. I am pretty sure that I have seen them at Fresh World/el Mercado Grande in Glen Burnie... I would assume that the Reston location would have them too.

        1. Ask around for tunas. Hispanic markets will carry them, but it's not really the season for them yet.
