Is it me or has the food went down a liitle bit. Be going there for at least 30 some odd years. The steaks don't taste the same and they seem to push you out . Feels as if we where treated as cattle. Party of 9 sat by 3 pm and was done at 4 20 pm. Mine you we didn't have coffee and dessert. No problem with the wait staff . One steak came rare when ordered well ??? WTF. He took part of the steak back cooked it .??? I think the steak houses in NYC are far superior now .

Can't agree that others are particularly better yet-but agree the place is more inconsistent than in the past, based on my last 2 visits. Nothing they can't fix, if they start paying attention to fans who are starting to bring it up.

I feel like an hour and twenty minutes without coffee or dessert is a pretty long meal. is that rushed for you?

Absolutely. Luger is not a very long meal in the first place and no dessert, what do you expect to sit and linger for 2 hours?
It has become inconsistent, lately, at the very least, sadly.

Went there Sunday for birthday dinner. Home run out of the park. Possibly the best I've had in my few dozen visits over the past 20 years. Onion and tomato salad. Porterhouse in servings for 2's. Skipped the bacon this time. No longer get spinach or potatoes. Brooklyn lager. Strudel and schlag. Chomped on bone for breakfast Monday. Perfect cholesterol romp. Had blood work drawn on Monday, waiting for results.

I, too, was rushed out when I was there. Not only was I not impressed by the food (I did like the big cocktails), but they seem to have a "burn 'em and turn 'em" attitude with their guests.

Phantomdoc. I hope you told your Dr what you ate the night before your test. I have to agree Brooklyn Bobby . It has become a turn them out place. When the the old man Foreman was alive he didn't change a thing. new blood is there . that why so many went to open other steak houses. When i was young the whole wait staff was german.

In my training I learned that most of your cholesterol is manufactured by your liver and not from your diet. I will get the results and see if there is a spike. I do admit that when I was a vegan marathon runner I set a low cholesterol record in my doctors office.
Peter Luger is not the kind of place you go to as the evenings entertainment. Not cozy, inviting or romantic. You go there for great chow. Seems to be the definition of the chowhound experience. Family owned, personal pride in providing the finest of the breed. I did not feel rushed there ever, but it is a place I do not wish to linger over multiple cups of coffee or after dinner drinks. It is just to noisy for that. I don't go often but it has always been memorable.
