Zucca, Chaya, Liberty Grill, Church & State or ??

I'm planning a graduation dinner, downtown, for 10 people. The dinner will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday.

I don't love steak, and not everyone in the party will eat sushi. Food quality, great service and value are important to me. Price and alcohol will not be deciding factors.

Here are the restaurants I'm considering. Zucca, Chaya, Liberty Grill and Church & State.

What do you think of these options? Do you have any other ideas for me to consider?

Thank you for your help.

Church and State is really, really good. I'm anxious to try the new Chaya. I've never had any interest in either Zucca or Liberty Grill, and I suspect that at least for food purposes, those two would be at the bottom of that list.

I've only been to Zucca and the food was mediocre. I've heard great things about Church & State and that would probably be my pick.

Church & State would absolutely be my pick. Drago Centro would also be a great choice and they have a private dining room with a demonstration kitchen that's built in an old bank vault that could be perfect if you want a private room. Oh, I also had lunch last week at Rivera and the food and cocktails were delicious. Liberty Grill was pretty terrible the last couple of times I was there and I agree that Zucca is pretty mediocre. I have only tried Chaya downtown at their opening party which was buffet style so not really fair to judge them by, but we ended up going next door to Drago Centro to eat afterwards, FWIW.

As others have already said, not interested in Lib Grille or Zucca. Love Chaya in BH - don't know if dt branch will have same chef?

Anyway, of the 3, C&S gets my vote. Great french bistro type food and well thought out and nicely priced wine list. Warning tho - definitely score a reservation in advance b/c it is a bit small, and fills up quite quickly. And service tends to lag, a bit, by the end of the meal.

yet one more vote for Church and State. We had a terrific dinner there a few weeks back. Food is great. So is atmosphere. Great space/crowd for a celebration

Ditto Church and State. Lots of choices on the menu, great space, great food. I loved it and cannot wait to go back.

Church & State would be my pick. Great food, but can get loud. Service, in the past, has been a little slow, but that will probably work out better for a group that is celebrating.

Thanks for all of the replies. Of course Church & State is the one restaurant that is not returning my calls! So, I will use that as an excuse to go for dinner.

                    Isn't that always the way?!

Definitely go anyway to check it out. The DH & I didn't have rezzy's 2 Sats ago, and ended up there at 7, (not early enough, obviously) and I originally wanted to eat at the bar anyway, but it was full and it's (bar) way too small anyway.

But we were all dressed up, coming from a matinee play, so the hostess graciously, after first telling us "sorry" found us a table for two. We were soooo lucky!

Moral of the story is - it pays to look nice! Have fun and let me know how you liked it!
