Mochi Cream

nomo_fan Apr 27, 2009 07:35 PM

Wifey and I will be going to Japan in mid- to late-June. We will be in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Atami, and Hakone during our trip. On my last trip, I had this amazing MOCHI CREAM. I was told recently by a friend that the mochi cream place where I frequented during the last trip closed down as the Namba station is going through some remodeling. I want the custard filled mochi, not the ones filled with ice cream. Any help?

Some depachika have mochi cream. Not sure, but Mitsukoshi might have it. The concierge at your hotel should be able to make a few phone calls and find it for you.

Their corporate website has never been updated.

Ginza Mitsukoshi definitely has them. I love those things! The displays are always so beautiful since they have so many colors in a big row. I also saw a shop a couple months ago at the Olinas mall in Kinshicho if that's any help (haha).

Last year, there was one in Ueno station, in the main hall across from the Hard Rock Cafe, and a few doors up from Andersen .

I didn't notice if it was still there back in January.

FYI, the mochi cream in Ueno station seems to have closed. We looked for it last week and couldn't find it.

Also the one across from Shibuya station is closed as well.

We ended up finding it at Meguro station.

There's one near Kawasaki station - in Lazona shopping mall. I was there at the end of March this year.

There's also a Mochi Cream shop in Narita Airport - Terminal 2. It's such good stuff, I miss the caramel pudding one the most.

Thank you so much. As soon as I get off from Narita airport, I'm going to go to the mochi cream counter. Oh...How about in other places like Osaka?

Just saw one in Tobu (or was it Seibu?) in Ikebukuro. There are 8 new flavors including apple pie...

On our Kyoto Support forum (www.openkyoto.com/kyoto-support/) we were asked if there is a Mochi Cream store in Kyoto, and there is. It is in Daimaru Department Store. More info here www.openkyoto.com/kyoto-support/topic....

A little wagashi shop in my neighborhood also carries Mochi Cream products, only a limited line up, so you may be able to find these yummies other places around your town.

Thank you all for your suggestions and help. We ended up eating at the mochi cream at Terminal 2 at Narita Airport. It was OK but not as good as the mochi cream on my last trip. The store that carried the mochi cream at Namba station in Osaka closed down, and no one knows if the store relocated. The station moved their English information station to where the mochi cream stand was, and it was never relocated within the station. Oh well. I had the best kobe beef at Grill Miyata in Kyoto, and I had the best pancake in my life at the Maille Coeur Shougetsu in Hakone. the Maille Coeur also served a red snapper and blowfish shabu shabu that was out of this world. I hope to get back to Japan again.
