Searching for Thai takeout in/near Belmont

ethnicchick Apr 27, 2009 02:13 PM

Hi chows...I've been cruising this site for a while and getting lots of great tips over the years...this, however, is my first post...

Just moved to Belmont from Brookline, where I lived just steps from Rod Dee and Dok Bua...

I've been searching the boards, but am desperately looking for some good, not too pricey, relatively authentic Thai (eat in or take out) in my new, culinarily-challenged 'hood (much like I used to get at Rod Dee regularly)...am willing to travel a little (Arlington, Cambridge, even Somerville)...anyone have recs?

Pho and Thai is actually not bad, but it ain't no Dok Bua ;-)

I was not impressed by Pho and Thai (based on one visit, admittedly). I have an on-again off-again relationship with Patou (in Belmont center) - nice space with white tablecloths and an outdoor patio, but inconsistent. I was in love with their braised spicy beef shortribs until a few months ago, when they came out lukewarm, limp and greasy. I also don't recommend takeout from them. And, like much of Belmont, they close early.

Thai moon, in arlington, is also fine, but not knock-your-socks-off good.

Not the same level as RD and DB, but Thai Moon in Arlington Center is the best Thai in the area - with good prices, big portions, and friendly service. It's seldom crowded. If you have any aversion to heat, tell them when you order - it can be really fiery at times even if you don't specify hot.

Not very authentic (at all), but their version of Crab Rangoon is my absolute, must have every time I go there, favorite (it doesn't travel well for takeout, though).

Second Thai Moon. Excellent stir fry noodles and curry dishes.
