Southwest MO-Mansfield, Springfield, Mountain Grove
A friend and I are going to Baker's Creek Planting festival in Mansfield this weekend. What should we not miss? We will be in the general area and will probably end up in Springfield for staying overnight. We are open to all kinds of food, but we are assuming that country food will predominate. Places with good pie are always welcomed!
Jardin32...I'm not going to be much help here...my best buddy recently moved to Mountain Grove, and we have looked in vain for even a decent place to eat. The Hayloft in on Main Street in Mountain Grove (you'll pass it if you take the main road from the highway into town), is probably something of a 'country place.' Fried chicken, fried catfish, mashed potatoes with gravy. But the gravy is food-service stuff, and the butter is margarine. The people are very nice, and the prices are reasonable, but I wouldn't say it is a don't-miss place. Springfield is chockablock with choices, but I have yet to find much that I get very excited about
Sorry I'm no help to you, but if you find anything good, I'd sure appreciate it if you'd let me know! (On the other hand, the health food store on the town square in Mountain Grove (stay on Main past the hayloft, you'll bang into the square) is fun. They have an amazing array of bulk items, like dried blueberries and sesame sticks and dried figs...worth a visit. And the surplus grocery in Cabool, Shetler's Cafe and Grocery, (you'll see their signs on Highway 60) is one of those never-know-what-you're-going-to-find places. Last time I was there they had tubs of mozzerella balls three-for-a-dollar. (Only a FEW days past their best-by date).
