A friend just drove by and said there was a sign up saying the property was leased...Anyone hear anything?

about 14800 Ventura Blvd at Kester in Sherman Oaks.

      1. re: SIMIHOUND

Block away from their old location.
Maybe in that strip mall across the street?

        1. re: SIMIHOUND

They used to be at 14917 Ventura.

          1. re: maxzook

Let me clarify this. In my op I was giving an approximate address of the old location. At exacty the old location which is about 14800 Ventura is where the sign is now showing the property for lease.

            1. re: SIMIHOUND

The leased sign at the old weiner factory location has been up for over a month. No discernible activity to be found yet.

              1. re: SIMIHOUND

Weren't they going to turn it into a Pinkberry?

                1. re: maxzook

That got nixed they didnt have enough parking.

                  1. re: maxzook

It looks like Pinkberry is opening a few doors down from Chipotle in Encino. Sad little Weiner Factory is still boarded up. I walk by at least once a week, no pulse.

                    1. re: maxzook

Here's the gist, please correct me if I'm wrong:

It has actually been leased for the past few months at 14917 Ventura Blvd, or rather than the sign advertising it for lease has been plastered with a LEASED sign for the past few months.

It was going to be a PInkberry, but supposedly they dropped out after finding it out it would be to arduous to comply with parking restrictions due to department of building and safety and zoning.

And now it continues to sit VACANT a year and a half later.

At least we have Fab's Hot Dogs to soften the blow.

                      1. re: kevin

So you are saying that they are moving back to their original location?

Simihound says they are moving to a location a block away at Kester.

                        1. re: monku

HA! Dont I wish! Me and about a thousand other folks. I honestly thought they would reopen someplace in the SFV by now. I know the owners got tired of working so hard every day and I guess after having to close down and do other things maybe that was easier. Fab's is ok but its very small and the ambience isn't the same. And I still hate canned soda. Have they put in a fountain yet?

                          1. re: SIMIHOUND

I wonder how many people signed up on their mailing list when they'll be opening up again. man, i could go for some of their dogs right now. and yes, unlimited refills from the soda fountain, yeah, when i go to fab's sometimes i have to get two canned or bottled sodas, but then again i like that they Dr. Brown's and as far as I know you can't get Brown's on a soda fountain.

The location still looks unchanged even though they have leased it out. Perhaps it will be another hot dog stand????

                            1. re: kevin

Another HD stand would be a joke unless it is WF or some really fantastic place. Maybe Fab's would go in there? Now THAT would be cool.

                              1. re: SIMIHOUND

you are correct, it just wouldn't be the same without Wiener Factory in it's old digs. I wonder if the bon mots and witticisms scrawlings are still up there.

                                what do you think?

that atmosphere was great, the steam from the dogs that filled the room.

at least i got a souvenir copy of the menu to hold on to, and look at whenever i seem to get nostalgic and misty eyed.

Checked out Fab's for the first time today and it was good. Had a Ripper and Polish dog.
                              No fountain soda yet.
                              Nice owners Joe & Suzie.

was the Polish dog a replica of the dog served up at the wiener factory.

                                1. re: kevin

Good Polish dog. But, didn't have the little tied ends like they had at the Weiner Factory.
I had the mild, Joe said the spicy was "very" hot so I chickened out.

                                  1. re: monku

I was told that the Polish Dogs are the same ones that Wiener Factory served. I had a spicy one at Fabs and it seemed like the same to me. I also am waiting for them to ditch the cans and get a fountain.

                                    1. re: monku

The "firecracker" Polish Dog didn't seem that spicy to me. I had it with the Mexicali topping -- spicy chipotle sauce, onions, guacamole and sour cream -- last week, and it was great. I actually preferred it to the Weiner Factory polish sausage.

                2. STOP TEASING ME!!!!!!!!! I WANT A WEINER FACTORY SPICY POLISH NOW!
