Meal at Mint Leaf (Berkeley): horrible

We just had an early dinner at Mint Leaf in Berkeley. Boy was the food horrible. Our appetizer (chicken samosa) was the only decent item of food we got. The main dishes were truly horrible. Seafood curry: blandest curry I've ever tasted, contained (I kid you not) one shrimp and two pieces of fish, and not even warm enough to boot. Lamb rogan josh: Lamb was really tough, sauce was not a traditional rogan josh. To top it all, service was quite slow. But the real culprit here is clearly in the kitchen.

I thought the food was good though bland and undersalted. Portions were fine for the price.

When was the last time you were there? I keep meaning to try this place, but certainly not if its slipping.

March 9. The cheap wine deals on the late-night menu might draw me back, but the food's not in the same league with Indus Village or Kabana, or even Khana Peena, which is owned by the same guy.

Thanks for the update. There was a positive report a while back, but sounds like it might be slipping. It is odd in this economy that any restaurant wouldn't do everything possible to make sure the food is as good as it gets.

We were indeed surprised by the low quality of our meal, as the things we read about the place (here in chowhound, and in yelp) did not raise any big red flags.
