Help! I'm a visiting Bay Area hound and am struggling to find good options for our group, which includes 1 strict vegan, 1 vegetarian, and 2 omnivores. We are staying in Torrance but are down in Long Beach for the Olympic swim trials. (We're also willing to drive a bit for good food.) We've got 4 more days and nights to go, so I need a lot of help!

I've read about Pollo Inka and Flossie's in Torrance, which sound mouth-watering but look pretty unsuitable for vegans. The nonvegans enjoyed a noodle lunch at Mishima, but again, it looked like there was nothing there for vegans.

Any suggestions for any kind of ethnic cuisines would be especially welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Open Sesame, on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore (Long Beach) has a couple of strictly vegetarian items on the menu, which may very well be vegan. This is a small, really good, Lebanese/middle eastern cafe. If the Olympic swim trials are at the Belmont pool, it's just east on 2nd street maybe a mile.

Hi beanbag -- I would definitely second this recommendation. It's a casual place (don't know if you are looking for more upscale) that has great veg / vegan choices, including a veg lentil soup which is delicious. When I am in SF, I have been craving this place and beelining for it whenever I am in the area. Was just there with a vegan who asked them several questions about food, and they were very open to the questions.

My vegetarian aunt does pretty well at the sushi places in Gardena and Long Beach (ie., Koi in Seal Beach, Sushi of Naples) and they give her some great vegetarian rolls, including some at Sushi of Naples wrapped in thin cucumber vs. seaweed (just for variation). Koi is better quality for the cost if you ask me.

I can't think of her specific choices in Gardena, but can find out if you are going to be there for a couple more days.
