Lexington Help

We are visiting Lexington and Pleasant Hill for four days next week and are looking for recommendations for: Home Cooking, Meat and 3's, KY BBQ, DDD's and any other fun places. We already have reservations for the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg and The Trustee's Office Dining Room (we are staying 2 nights at Pleasant Hill - although the food there has been mixed in the past). Thanks in advance!

  1. A couple of weeks ago, we were in Lexington on a Monday evening and ate at Billy's BBQ in Chevy Chase - near the UK campus. I ordered mutton bbq with fried okra and black eyed peas while my wife ordered a small salad and a bowl of burgoo For dessert, we shared a blackberry cobbler with ice cream. The food was all very good, the service above average and the prices (in our opinion) were quite reasonable. Billy's has been there for just over thirty years, so they are doing something right.

    1. We actually love the Old Owl Tavern at Beaumont ,,,we love the main dining room too but the tavern is fun and delish too.

      1. One of the best places to get your veggies and homestyle cooking is Ramsey's. They are a local restaurant with 3 or 4 locations. Price runs about $11-12 per person if you get meat and veggies. Me--I just get the veggies, especially good are the fried green tomatoes. Oh, and don't skip dessert.

        1. I am not trying to be a smartA here, but it would really help if you'll mentioned a state in the title to your post... I think almost every state in the south has a Lexington! Va would come to mind first for me.

Sorry 'bout that! You are too right - there's a Lexington everywhere you look.

          2. Thanks for the responses! Our visit was great! We loved Ramsy's so much that we had lunch there two days in a row. I especially loved the chicken livers and the Kale. We also had dinner at the Beaumont Inn and the fried chicken and country ham were both outstanding. We had dinner at Halls on the River - outside Winchester. We sat outside on the patio, overlooking the river. I really liked the shrimp and grits appetizer as well as the Kentucky Hot Brown. Thanks again for the recommendations!!!
