Back in Manhattan--what did I miss?

  • 3

I used to live in Manhattan until March of 2008. Now I live abroad, but I'll be back in the city for 2.5 weeks next month. What's sprung up in the last year that I should know about? I am making an extensive list of old favorites to go back to, but I don't want to live only in the past :)

  1. You need to be more specific about what you are looking for, such as what cuisines you prefer, and whether you want casual or fancy. Also, give us your per person budget for food only (drinks, tax & tip additional).

    1. A new favorite is Scarpetta in the meatpacking district. It's definitely something that is worth a try.

Besides that, what are your old favorites? Just as something to use as a point of reference...

      1. In no particular order, assuming no price ceiling, these have opened in the last year or so (as in you should know about them, not that they are all CH approved, etc):

        Corton
        Momofuku Ko
        Momofuku Milk Bar
        Hakata Ippudo
        Scarpetta
        Convivo
        Dovetail
        Matsugen
        Bar Bouloud
        Yerba Buena
        Company aka Co.
        Porchetta
        John Dory
        Baoguette
        Keste
        Sorella
        Minetta Tavern
        Rhong Tiam
        Black Iron Burger
        Scuderia
        White Slab Palace
        Butcher Bay
        'inoteca (Gramercy)
        Bespoke Chocolates
        Shang
        Ella
        Mayahuel
        Apoetheke
        Apiary
        Delicatessen
        Socarrat
Bar Blanc is now Blanc Bistro

Basically just go on eater.com and search for "the plywood report." Or look here:
