i finally had the courage to order pho at santa cruz diner. it was good. the bowl is really big and it is only 5.99! the meat was the right kind and the only problem was that they didn't give me lemon slices like usual. It wasn't the best but it beats paying eight dollars at thai house. The reason it tastes so authentic is because the owner's wife is Vietnamese and its her own recipe. YUP I FOUND OUT. go eat pho! be happy!

I think this is normally reported on the CA board not the SF board. I lived in SC for 7 years, left about 5 years ago, and as a life long pho eater, I found their pho to be horrible. Spaghetti-like noodles (too thick, wrong texture), bland broth, meat was middling, it was all wrong. But that was a while ago, perhaps things have changed.

I lived in SC for 18 years. I mustered up the courage a few years ago to try the pho and found it horrible. The meat was deli roast beef. Lemon slices? One good thing about living in Sacramento now is that there are at least 2 good pho places now, and one place with good bun. I know the owner's wife is Vietnamese, but the pho was underwhelming. Maybe they've improved it since I tried it, though.
