  1. OMG, I had NO idea we could even get them here. If anyone knows where there may be some, PLEASE share.

The Indian restaurant near our apt. in Stuttgart, W. Germany, offered them in season. I have had some amazing food experiences in my time, but eating these mangoes are in my top 5 list.

Patel Brothers in Hyattsville had them last year. They said they are uncertain if they can get them this year, but can check with them in 1-2 weeks for possible availability.

Regulation wise - they are allowed in (also Thai mangoes if that is of interest to anybody) but due to US technical restrictions (fruit from some places are subject to irradiation or hot steam or cold dip or ... to kill pests and prevent foreign invasive species), it becomes a toss up between short shelf life with good taste or longer shelf life and so-so taste (via treated fruit). Of course all this additional logistical burden means higher prices for those fruit as well.

I think some central & south am sources are exempt and thus you see more of their products on the shelves (vs. India or Thai or other Asia origin fruit).

      2. They aren't Indian mangoes, but the ones for sale at Bangkok 54 market on Columbia Pike right now are outstanding. The best I've had in the last few years. Creamy, floral, and sweet, not stringy or sour at all.

        1. For those who are still interested, Indian mangoes have arrived. I got a couple from Patel Brothers in Rockville. Check your local Indian grocery store. Supplies are limited.
