new, good & cheap in the EV

Having dinner out with a buddy before a party on Saturday night in the East Village - trying to find something for $35 or less, not really involving drinks.

We usually hit up Momofuku, but with Kimchee stew off the menu for now, I'm looking for some place interesting. Anyone have any good low key suggestions?

Dirt Candy and Grafitt both serve some of the most creative food in the east village right now, and both relatively inexpensive.

Thanks. These both look really good (is Grafitt same as Graffiti Bistro?) . . . now if I could find some new, inexpensive places on the LES I'd be even happier. Still missing Elyssa Dido, Bacaro's not as good as it used to be, eaten most of Rayuela's menu . . .

Thanks quizkiddonniesmith, went to Dirt Candy tonight. I'll post a separate report.

Thanks quizkiddonniesmith, went to Graffiti last night. I'll post a separate report. Food and service were very good, atmosphere left a lot to be desired (luckily I was at the communal table way in the back). Dirt Candy and Terroir are "huge" compared to Graffiti . . .

I wouldn't say Ippudo is really low key -- it's been PACKED every time I've tried to go with 1-2 hour quoted waits.
