Can you help me with ideas for a weekend dinner and a brunch this summer? My family is descending this August and I would like recommendations for a place that can accommodate a party of 16 or so. The age ranges three generations (a 6th grader to grandma) and for the most part fairly knowledgeable diners. Quality over quantity and interesting/regional over predictable would be an accurate description. They’ll be staying downtown so someplace within walking distance would be great.

I am leaning towards Palace Kitchen and Steelhead Diner for dinner since they both have a wide selection available and their menus do a good job of representing the Northwest. A private room and/or a view would be nice as well. For other meals I will suggest some of my favorites like Tamarind Tree, Waterfront Grill, Shuckers, Wild Ginger and Baguette Box for smaller/break out groups.

For brunch I am not sure what is available that would be interesting, especially downtown. I love to take everyone to Portage Bay Café or even Geraldine’s but it would be difficult to accommodate a large party.

Steelhead Diner used to do an okay if not-cheap brunch; I haven't been myself in a long time as I think Lola and Maximilien are both better brunches for similar money. However, Steelhead does have a private room that could accommodate you.

What about dim sum for brunch? Jade Garden is my preferred spot but a party of 16 would be split over 2 tables and might be a bit chaotic to arrange. The oddly-named O'Asian, though, is serviceable and has the distinct advantage of being located downtown, with plenty of space for large parties.

(Just FWIW: Palace Kitchen is a crowdpleaser but their private room will only seat 14.)

Thanks for the recommendations. I recently had brunch at Steelhead Diner which was good, it made me interested in dinner there. I’ve heard a lot about Boat Street Café, I need to see if they can accommodate a party of 16. Since I have some time yet I can check out some of the other recommendations.
