Rabbit in PDX?
Anyone know where I can buy some rabbit in PDX? Preferably from a local farm, no hormone, etc. I have never bought one, so any suggestions on what to look for when buying would be welcome as well.

My suggestion if you're a bit gunshy about buying a whole rabbit is getting rabbit hindquarters at places like Viande or Chop. You can also pick up rabbit rillettes as well, if you're in a terrine kind of mood.
(I served rabbit two ways on Easter, but I'm dastardly like that.)

re: SauceSupreme
I finally made the rabbit dish. It was great! I ended up buying a whole rabbit at Sheridan Grocery and having the butcher cut it apart for me.

City market has rabbit quarters I am told for roughly 15$/lb, cant speak to the local/hormone part though.
I have seen whole frozen rabbit at both Uwaijimaya and Hmart for 7$/lb or so, these are almost certainly not local/hormone free.
NIckyUSA sells both parts and whole rabbit, both frozen and fresh. I do believe these are touted as hormone free. prices are in the 7-8$ range.

You could try Sheridan Fruit Co., New Seasons, or Whole Foods. I know Gartners Meat Market does NOT carry rabbit. I can't think of the name but there is a great small shop on SE Hawthorne near Powell's Books that might carry rabbit.

re: nwhitney2003
I asked about rabbit once at New Seasons and they looked at me like I was some sort of monster--I don't think they have it.
Pastaworks on Hawthorne always has it, and it's fresh, not frozen. I have actually seen it at Fred Meyer on occasion.
NickyUSA provides a lot of rabbit to the area. I think you can buy from them, but it's like a $50 minimum order. If you really want a local farm, there was a place just south of Dundee (I think it's here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&s...) that has a sign that says "Bunny Rabbits" on one side and "Fryer Rabbits" on the other--I was never sure if that was a joke or not.
