Dairy Free desserts

I'm hosting little party this weekend and need to buy some dairy free desserts...cupcakes, cake, etc. for a friend that can't have dairy any longer :(

I don't want it them to taste like cardboard. but as delicious as can be.

thx so much

Real Food Daily (on La Cienega) has a great selection of cakes and cupcakes you can order. I recently threw a birthday party for my vegan friend and brought the tiramisu cake, the chocolate cake w/ whip cream filling ( a fudge topped, chocolate, bundt cake shaped, hostess cupcake type deal but w/out the sugary-ness...and really good), and a variety of different cupcakes, and almond/jam cookies. I also like their marble cake w/ fudge frosting. All were moist (dryness is a common dairy-free problem) and delicious.

Why not consider a pie or cobbler? Or does it have to be a faux flour product? Personally I'd much rather have a regular fruit pie, crumble, galette or tart than some gluten-free, faux torte. I'm just sayin'.

I am not sure where you live or where you want to shop but most Kosher bakeries make everything dairy free.

Urth is good, but expensive. Mani's on Fairfax has a huge selection of vegan desserts that are great. Also, if you wanted to make some cupcakes, I know you can subsitute coconut milk-I'm just not exactly sure how.

How many people will be attending the party? If you don't need a huge quantity, M Cafe de Chaya makes vegan cupcakes. I've heard raves about the strawberry ones. Urth Caffe might be an option too -- I love their vegan oatmeal raisin cookies.

M Cafe de Chaya's vegan chocolate cake is killer as well. The OP might also consider Jamaica's Cakes for vegan (meaning dairy-free) desserts as well. Their little lemon mini-bundt isn't spectacular, but their chocolate hazelnut mousse is great, as are their cupcakes.
