Little Luzzo's - Good Slice on the UES.
I was walking on E. 96th Street, after redeeming myself at the NYPL and on my way to Kitchen Arts and Letters, when I noticed this place. It was well worth crossing the street for one of the best slices I've had on the UES. Not that I eat a lot of slices, but I have been known, from time to time, to grab one. Usually they are okay - it's rough to really screw up pizza, IMO. And, here, I was rather wary once I saw that one pizza had chopped cucumbers on it. However, my slice of white pizza had great, fresh ingredients, a nice crispy and charred crust, lots of fresh mozzarella. Another pie with prosciutto looked appetizing, as did the margarita.
From doing a little research, I gather that they are related to Luzzo's, and have a brick-lined gas-fueled deck oven.
Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area - it's on the north side, between Park & Lex.
Thanks for the info, MMRuth, I stopped in to take a look and have been meaning to try this place. Now I definitely will...a true hole in the wall and, yes, they say they are related to Luzzo's downtown. They also have a very interesting variety of prosciutto bread that I have never seen before and look forward to trying.
